This short session is the second of a pair (3 &amp; 4) that could sensibly be taken together, and they are part of a ten-session Foundations of Applied Systems Thinking course.This session covers three main topics:o&nbsp;&nbsp; ‘Matching’ between a system (provision) and its environment (demands).o&nbsp;&nbsp; Tactics for improving the match between your system’s provision and the demands:1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; coordination – making things work well together2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; amplification and attenuation – ‘turning up’ or ‘damping down’ provision at appropriate points in the system).During the session, we will take you through the following methods, tools and models: matching variety; diagnosing co-ordination issues and opportunities; diagnosing points of variety mismatch and opportunities.<h3 id="f1ef9e19-cca0-4452-af73-500373c2dc6d" data-toc-id="f1ef9e19-cca0-4452-af73-500373c2dc6d" style="font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.2;">Objectives</h3>Following this session, you will:o&nbsp;&nbsp; Understand variety, and the need for a system to match the variety of its provision (response) to the variety of demands from its environment.o&nbsp;&nbsp; Learn how to diagnose coordination issues and to identify opportunities to improve coordination.o&nbsp;&nbsp; Learn how to diagnose mismatches in variety at points in the system and understand the options for improving the match at various points in the system: amplification and attenuation.o&nbsp;&nbsp; See systems as dynamic and adaptive; understand the impact of design decisions (by providers) and of agency (by people who use the system).o&nbsp;&nbsp; Understand the interplay of worldview, system design, and system behaviour.TrainerThese courses are delivered by&nbsp;John Rogers,&nbsp;a Systems Thinking Consultant &amp; Practitioner.John Rogers is an accomplished systems thinking consultant and former public sector leader with over 30 years of experience driving purposeful, systemic improvement in complex, multi-agency environments. As Director of Entelechy Consulting and Systems Practitioner Assessment Ltd, he advises, trains, and assesses leaders and organisations in systems thinking, with recent work including frameworks and training for NHS Integrated Care Systems. Formerly Head of Systems Thinking at Wiltshire Council, he led transformative initiatives across children’s services, adult social care, and policing, and pioneered immersive systems training for 1,500 staff.
